Praying For Revival
Our nation is in desperate need of revival. However, our nation cannot be revived unless the church is revived. The church cannot be revived unless you and I, as individuals, are revived. Unless we take personal responsibility for revival it can never take place. In short, we cannot have revival unless you have revival.
Throughout scripture, in both the Old and New Testaments, and throughout church history the absolute essential element of revival is prayer. God will always respond to His people when they earnestly and fervently persist in prayer.
We would like to offer the following scriptural prayers as a foundation point to seek the Lord together for revival. By praying the scripture we know that we are praying in His will and have the promise that He will answer. I John 5: 14 & 15; And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us; And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. Secondly, we have the promise from our Lord that if we agree together in prayer touching anything that we shall ask, it shall be done for us. Matthew 18: 19; Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
1) Psalm 139: 23 & 24; Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Prayer: Lord examine me, search my heart, put me under your microscope and reveal to me anything that might be between you and me and anything that might hinder my relationship with you.
2) Matthew 5: 23 & 24; Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remembers that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Prayer: Lord reveal to me anything that not only might be between you and me but anything that might be between me and someone else.
3) Psalm 10: 17; Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.
Prayer: Lord humbly I ask you to prepare my heart. Please make me soft and receptive to your Word and to whatever you would say to me.
4) Proverbs 1: 23; Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Prayer: Lord help me to be teachable and willing to be corrected when you speak to my heart.
5) Luke 8: 10; And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God; but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand.
Prayer: Lord give me spiritual eyes that I might see and spiritual ears that I might hear and do not let me miss what you are saying to me.
6) Psalm 16: 11; Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forever more.
Prayer: Oh Lord may we sense your presence in a special and unusual way during this time of revival.
7) I Thessalonians 1: 5; For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance.
Prayer: Lord I pray that you will pour out your Spirit on your Word in power as it is preached and proclaimed during these special services. May your special anointing impact each of us in eternal ways.
These scriptural prayers are suggestions which can be personally adapted. Also, the Word of God is full of promises that can be prayed about revival. After praying these prayers personally, we should then intercede for others that will be in these special services that they might also experience true revival.
