JESUS:  Our Only Hope

Deborah and I want to thank you for your prayers and financial support of Greenway Ministries.  In 2009 we saw many souls come to Jesus and many more testified to going deeper with Him.  We were thrilled and overjoyed to see many believers sanctified wholly and filled with God's Spirit.  We also sensed God's presence in a very special way in many of our meetings this year.  We trust much eternal fruit is going to come from these special services.

As many of you know, the 2009 financial meltdown did not come as a surprise to us.  The Lord had prepared us for this crisis.  For the past several years, in every place we have been, we warned people of these coming difficult days which are now upon us.  I am sorry to say, in the temporal realm, things are not going to get better, only worse. Those of us who know the Lord and know His Word recognize the inevitable collapse of our nation.  The Word of God is clear, people and nations reap what they sow.  We as a nation, have, "sown the wind and we shall reap the whirlwind." (Hosea 8:7)  We have turned our back and not our face to God.  In our national laws and official decrees, we have abandoned Biblical truths for politically correct, secular humanistic philosophies.  Our leaders are corrupt, bought by special interest and for the most part, morally bankrupt.  The secular foundations that replaced the Biblical truths our country was founded upon are crumbling.  We as a nation, have rebuilt our foundation on the "sinking sand" of worldly principles and the coming storms will be devastating.

As sad and as disappointing as our national situation is, it is not the most serious problem.  The most serious and severe problem is that the church also has replaced the Word of God for the principles and methods of man.  The church in America today looks more like a secular club than the supernatural body of Christ.  Our churches are more concerned about social issues than spiritual needs.  We focus on Web pages and face-booking instead of the Word of God and seeking Him.  We have forsaken the Biblical mandate of "seeking to save that which is lost" for meeting the felt needs of the community.  We no longer pray, we party.  Sadly we have determined that the preaching of the Cross, Jesus' blood, the Word of God and the lifting up of Jesus name as simply too ineffective and outdated for our culture.  We have "hewed out cisterns" that hold no water.  We have a "form of godliness but deny the power thereof."  It is no wonder our nation is coming apart at the seams and when our nation needs the church the most, we too have lost our way and can offer no help.

Our situation reminds me of Ezekiel 37 in the "Valley of Dry Bones".  The prophet Ezekiel is shown a valley of dry bones which represented the nation of Israel in its captive, backslidden condition in Babylon.  Their capitol, Jerusalem, had been destroyed, their fellow countrymen had either been killed, dispersed or taken captive. Certainly, things seemed hopeless for the Jews in Babylon, just like the vision of dry bones shown to Ezekiel.  But praise the Lord, nothing is hopeless with God.  Through the preaching of the Word of God by the prophet and in the moving of the Holy Spirit, the dead dry bones revived.  We too, have the same blessed hope in America.  Through the proclamation of God's Holy Word and the moving of the Holy Spirit, we too can be revived.  We can sing with the hymn writer, "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.  I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus' name.  On Christ the solid rock I stand.  All other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand."  The hymn writer goes on to say, "when all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay."  In these difficult times we do well to trust totally in Jesus.

I do believe revival is coming to America.  However, it will be at great temporal cost.  Israel's revival mentioned above, in the valley of dry bones, was preceded by devastating judgment.  They like us in America had forsaken God's will and way.  Their arrogant, self-reliant disobedience had destroyed their nation and land.  We too, in a pious, sinful self-righteousness, have forsaken God and we too will reap like all nations that forget God.  As individuals, we who are wholly surrendered to the Lord, will be protected by God's providential hand much like Israel was protected from the plagues of Egypt in the land of Goshen. Make no mistake, we will endure some pain.  Just like the nation of Israel, who had to endure the first three, less severe, plagues in Egypt and were protected from the remaining, more devastating plagues.

Our country is no longer at a crossroad.  We are beyond being fixed or adjusted, we need to start over.  I believe the coming national collapse will awaken the true church to its national idolatry and we will again begin to trust and totally rely upon our Savior and Lord.  It is then that God will respond to our surrender and faith in Him and revival will come.  Let us all pray and be prepared.

We love you,

Kenny & Deborah
